The status quo not working for you.....then 'Untemplate' your life
For those of you out there who want to live a life without boundaries and be free to do as you wish, then you'll be pleased to know that there is a community out there to help you. Untemplater was founded by six like minded individuals who have broken the standard mould of the life that society and culture dictate. What does it mean to be 'untemplated'? Well, to put it simply:
"Work where you want… Live how you want… Be what you want to be."
May be you have already read the inspirational books and blogs of those who have 'made it', but is that enough? Isn't it difficult to emulate role models who have got to where they want to be and now in there books and blogs make it sound so easy? Wouldn't it be easier to align your difficult journey with those who are on a similar path? A fundamental aspect of the Untemplater team is that they haven't quite 'made it', but are working extremely hard to live their desired lives and are kind enough to share their experiences and provide guidance along they.
The Untemplater manifesto contains insightful stories of the founders where each has a different background and has defined their own untemplated life.
Jun Loayza, the untemplated entrepreneur, left his a successful corporate career to build a start-up social media marketing agency. Jun states that Untemplater will focus in detail on how to succeed with a start-up, the systems and operations required in running start-ups, and how to maintain relations with those closest to you whilst living a hectic entrepreneurial lifestyle.
What's inspiring about Monica O'Brien, the untemplated careerist, is that the fear of altering the status quo hasn't deterred her from pursuing different careers in order to discover what she enjoys most. Monica hopes that Untemplater will help others find their path whatever it may be.
My personal favourite case is that of Cody Mckibben, the untemplated traveler. Cody focuses on the types of people, from a college Dean to like minded entrepreneurs/gurus, that have had an impact in untemplating his life. Now "location-independent", Cody is able to run a business from anywhere he chooses. Cody provides ten thought provoking pointers for creating an untemplated life and I urge you to take a look and seriously think about them.
Adam Smith has untemplated his family's life, which goes to show that you can settle down with a partner, have children and still live the life you want. Adams inspirational story takes him from working more than twice the average hours per week to eventually getting a handle on his finances and taking the leap to travel and work across Australasia with his family. What is truly amazing is that this family has embraced the fear of not knowing what the future holds and are simply enjoying their untemplated experiences.
Andrew Norcross, a corporate for a number years, was prompted to change his focus, not only due the lack of enjoyment in his career, but the fear of following those forced to postpone retirement due to the recent financial crisis. This made Andrew develop his own business and have the college education that he hadn't got around to. Andrew's message to untemplate your life is that you must use the technology at your finger tips to build relationships with similar people and as he says "have a personality, not just a username".
Carlos Miceli states an important message, namely that there are no "have to's" in life anymore, meaning that education and corporate careers don't guarantee security and stability. This is evident in all developed economies today. Further to this, Carlos points out that no one can envision the future, so we should not fear what we do not know, but instead live each day as it comes and work for what we truly believe in. It is pleasant to know that Carlos is passionate about tackling real issues through Untemplater to help with goals you may have.
So there you have it, six remarkable people wanting to help you live the life you want.
You will see that the Untemplater website has a number of interesting posts under the banner of Business, Mobile Lifestyle, Personal Finance and Self Improvement. Dariane Nabor's post, How I Navigate an Unseen Path, is one I can relate to as this is where I am at the moment. I also look forward to Jun Loayza's entrepreneurship series and really can't wait to see how the Untemplater community progresses.
